Supported Living Insurance
Specialist insurance for supported living providers across the UK — protecting your properties, your people, and your service users with comprehensive, tailored cover.
What is Supported Living Insurance?
Supported Living is a unique model of care that combines elements of property ownership with the provision of personal support and care services. It enables individuals with disabilities, mental health conditions, learning difficulties, or other complex needs to live as independently as possible within their own home or a shared property, with tailored support provided by your organisation.
Because supported living sits between traditional property ownership and domiciliary care, standard commercial insurance policies are rarely adequate. Your exposure spans both landlord-style property risks and care-related liabilities — and you need a policy that covers both precisely.
At Aldium Insurance, our specialist care team will take the time to understand exactly what services you provide to each service user. The distinction between "support" and "care" is critical to insurers, and getting this wrong can leave significant gaps in your cover. We ensure your policy accurately reflects your operation — whether that's professional indemnity, mistreatment cover, or property owners' liability.
Our supported living insurance can include:
- Buildings and property owners cover
- Loss of rent protection
- Property owners' liability
- Professional indemnity
- Medical Malpractice
- Employers' liability
- Public liability
- Contents cover for communal areas
- Service users' effects cover
- Business interruption insurance
Every quotation is accompanied by a Key Facts Summary of the recommended cover, with a full policy document available on request — so you always know exactly what you're covered for.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about supported living insurance answered by our specialist care team.
What is the difference between supported living insurance and care home insurance?
Care home insurance is designed for registered care homes where residents live in a single managed facility. Supported living insurance covers organisations that provide housing and support to individuals living in their own or shared accommodation, where the provider may act as both landlord and support provider. The risks — and therefore the cover required — are significantly different between the two models.
Is supported living insurance a legal requirement?
Employers' Liability insurance is a legal requirement if you employ any staff. Beyond this, whilst not all elements of supported living insurance are legally mandated, adequate insurance is a requirement of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England, Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), and the Care Inspectorate (CI) in Scotland. Operating without adequate cover risks both regulatory action and significant uninsured financial exposure.
Can I cover multiple supported living properties under one policy?
Yes. If you operate multiple supported living properties, we can arrange a combined policy that covers all of your sites under a single programme. This simplifies your administration, aligns your renewal dates, and can often deliver better value than individual policies for each property.
How long does it take to get a supported living insurance quote?
Once we have the information we need about your organisation and properties, our team will approach our panel of insurers and aim to come back to you with a competitive quotation promptly. For most supported living operators, we can provide an initial quotation within one to two working days. Contact us today to get started.
What information do I need to get a quote?
To provide an accurate quotation we will typically need details including the number of properties and their locations, the number of service users and staff, the types of support or care activities you provide, your claims history, and your policy renewal date. The more detail you can provide, the more accurately we can tailor your cover and approach insurers on your behalf.
